Thermal Properties of Some Nitrogen Ligated Complexes of Co(II)

A WADUD ,T ALI ,M S HUSSAIN ,

The thermal behaviour of some nitrogen-ligated complexes of 2-Guanidmobenzimidazole (GBM), 1,2 dimorpholinoethane (DME), 1,3 dimorpholinopropane (DMP) with Co(II) have been studied by thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis. Complete decomposition of the chelates, obtained from the above Iigands, was accomplished generally in two stages. All DMP complexes studied in the prellent investigations were found to be thermally less stable than the corresponding DME complexes. While most of the GBM and DME complexes were obllerved to be of comparable stability. The differential thermal analysis of Co(ll) complexes are also reported. The reaction found in DTA curves corresponded to those found in the TGA curves.

Preparation & characterisation of Co(II), CU(II) and Fe(III) Complexes of Tetraoxalylurea

A A SALMAN ,M A ABD EL GHAFAR ,A M NASER ,I M ABD ELLAH ,

Tetraoxalylurea and tetraoxalyHhiourea have been synthesised. Co(ll), Cu (I]) and Fe(llI) complexes have been prepared in different media and their structures were proposed on the basis of elemental analysis and IR measurements.

Solvolysis of Some Substituted Benzonorbornenyl Derivatives

K A KHAN ,M N IQBAL ,

The epimeric alcohols Salts and 12a14a have been synthesized and the solvolysis of their p-toluenesulphonates has been investigated. A small accellaration in the rate ratio for the exo/ endo epimers has been observed, explained on the basis of the cation IV. No steric effects have been observed due to the introduction of the methyl group as is evident in the solvolysis of 12a14a derivatives.

Specrtophotometric Determination of Ephedrine with Ninhydrin

C MUNIR ,R IQBAL ,B NASIM ,

A new convenient and highly sensitive method for micro-amounts detennination of ephedrine with ninhydrin is reported. Details of the working conditions for the method are discussed. The Beer-Lamberts' law is effectively obeyed in ephedrine concentration range of 4-36 ~gJml. The method has also been used for detennination of ephedrine in ephedrine hydrochloride tablets and ephedrine sulphate injections and the results are found consistent.

Electron spin resonance (ESR) studies upon iodine initiated polymerisation of alkyl vinyl ethers

K M JANJUA ,

Electron spin rhonanace technique wu uled for detecting the role of radical intermediates In the iodine initiated polymerisation of alkyl vinyl ethers. DPPH was used as a radical scavanpr. The JeaCtion was carded out In the presence of DPPH to find a clue to the presence of a free radical in the system. The results clearl~ indicated the presence of a radical intermOdiate in the reaction.

Studies on Achras Sapota. Part 1. The amino acids and carbohydrates contents of the fruits of Achras Sapota

S M IFZAL ,H PERVEZ ,R AHMED ,

The amino acids and carbohydrates present in the fruits of Achras sapota have been extracted and identified. The 95, 85 and 70% ethanol extracts afforded the mono- and dissacharides alongwith amino acids, while stepwise extraction with water at room temperature, hot water. ammonium oxalate and sodium hydroxide solutions gave the polysacdlarides. The mono- and disaccharides were identified as glucose, fructose, sucrose, lactose and galacturonic acid. The m~or constituents of the polysaccharides were galactose, galacturonic acid and arabinose with rhamnose and xylose as minor constituents. The amino acids found to be present were arginine, aspartic acid, alanine, isoleucine, leucine, glutamic acid, glycine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, proline, hydroxyproline, threonine. taurine. tyrosine. serine, valine, phosphoethanolamine alongwith urea.

Detennination of Microgram Amounts of Phenol, p-Bromophenol, Aniline, p-Bromoaniline, Thioacetamide, Tartaric Acid, Arsenic (ill) and Titanium (III) Using Hexamine Cobalt (III) As Redox Titrant

K NASSER ,M SALEEM ,T ABDUL ,

Hexamine cobalt (III) tricarbonato cobaltate (III) has been used for quantitative determination of phenol p-bromophenol, p-bromo aniline, thioacetamide aresenicand titanium (III). Procedures and conditions of titration were pen, and interferences of tartrates and oxalates were studied. Reactions based on results were suggested.

Higher Ammoniates of Cobalt(II) Thiocynate

D M S MOSHA ,

Seven and eight cobalt (II) thiocyanate ammoniates have been detected by a tendmetric study of the ammonia· cobalt(II) thiocyanate system at - 3S.4oc. Dissociation enthalpy measurements have yielded values of 33.8 and 37.5 kJ mo(~ for the seven and eight ammoniates respectively.
