IONIC-CONDUCTIVITY MEASUREMENTS OF LITHIUM IODIDE-DOPED LITHIUM PHOSPHATE

Present work deals with ionic conductivity measurements of system (UP03)l-x - (LiI)x where 0.2  x  0.9 mole. Measurements carried out between 1000C and 5000C using the method of complex impedance. Results obtained indicate a large increase of conductivity due to the doping effect by LiI. A maximum conductivity appears at x = 0.8 corresponding to a minimum activation energy (Eo = 0.42 eV).

ON THE FORMATION OF NI(II)-ANTHRANILIC ACID ANILIDE COMPLEXES

The preparation and spectral properties are reported for a series of nine anthranilic acid· anilide Iigand-Ni(lI) complexes. The coordination of the ligands has been demonstrated by ir and electronic spectra. The results indicate octahedral geometlY around Ni(II) ion, where EtOH molecule occupy bridged poSitions which lead to dimeric structure. The formation CUlVes and consequently the stability constants of the complexes in 50% dioxane are determined by potentiometric techniques. The values of the stability constants depend on molecular structure. Deviation of the (T-*.Iog K plots slopes from unity is attributed mainly to steric effects, 'lI"-electron back donation from the metal ion or structural changes in the ligand.

GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY OF SELENIUM DIOXIDE USING 2-STILLBALOLE AND 4-STILLBAZOLE AS DERIVATIZING REAGENTS

Thermogravimetl)'(TG) and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) of Z-(Z"-pyridyl)selenonaph­thene (Z-PSel\') and Z-(4- pyridyl)selenonaphthene(4-PSe!'\) prepared by the reactions of selenium dioxide and 2- and 4-stilbazole were recorded. Both of the seleno-derivatives are fairly volatile and loss in weight is almost quantitative upto 3OO0C. The selenonaphthenes are easily eluted on stainless steel OVIOI, 3% on chromosorb column at 2(XPC. The effects of heating time and ~empel'ature on the formation of seleno-del'ivatives are reported.

LOW-TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT OF MAGNETIC-SUSCEPTIBILITIES OF SOME BIS AMINO-ACIDS COPPER(II) COMPLEXES

The magnetic measurements below 80K are difficult to obtain but can be useful in the deter­mination of structure. A Gouy balance was developed and tested from room temperature down to 18K. Measurements on some bis-amino acid copper(II) complexes indicated ideal magnetically dilute behaviour. Tutton's salt of manganese indicated Curie Weis law behaviour over the entire temperature range.

SHEAR VISCOSITIES OF CELLULOSE ACETATE-POLYMER

The zero-shear viscosity of moderately concentrated solutions of cellulose acetate is studied iJ'l two different solvents namely; cyclohexanone and dioxane to investigate the effect of sol­vent on the polymer viscosity. For each solvent the ratio of the increment in the logarithemic zero­shear viscosity and logarithmic change of concentration (d In "oId InC) is calculated. To find out the effect of both temperature and concentration on the zero- shear viscosity of the polymer, solutions in dioxane are studied at various temperatures and it was concluded that the particle aggregation is af­fected when both the temperature and concentration are changed.

FLOW-INJECTION PROCEDURES FOR THE DETERMINATION OF L-GLUTAMIC ACID AND GLUTAMATE-DEHYDROGENASE USING CO-IMMOBILIZED BACTERIAL LUCIFERASE AND OXIDOREDUCTASE

Flow-injection procedures for the indirect determination of L-g1utamic acid and glutamate dehydrogenase, based on a coupled reaction ith immgbilized bacterial luciferase and oxidoreductase, are described. The linear ranges are 1 x 10 - 1 x 10- M for L-g1utamic acid and 0.015 - 0.3 pmol for glutamate dehydro~nase. The reproducibility is less than 5.8% (n =5) for both assays and the sample throughout is 60 h-1.

AUTOMATED FLUORIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF CREATINE USING FLOW-INJECTION ANALYSIS

An automated flow-injection method for the determination of creatine by a stopped flow procedure is described. The response used is the rate of development of fluorescence when creatine reacts with ninhydrin in alkali. The linear range, precision and accuracy of the technique for creatine is given. The advantages of this approach to the determination of creatine in serum, blood and urine is also discussed.

A NEW SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHOD FOR THE MICRODETERMINATION OF SULFATE

An indirect spectrophotometric method for the microdetermination of sulphate has been developed. The sulphate samples were reduced with sodium hypophosphite hydroiodic acid mixture and the hydrogen sulphide thus produced is absorbed in copper copper (II) sulphate solution. Unreacted copper (II), is then reduced to (I) with hydroxylamine sulphate and complexed with neocuproine which is extracted in isoamyl alcohol. The absorbance of the complex is determined at 456 nm and the sulphate ions are determined by dif­ference method.
