The low molecular weight (Mr) acid phosphatase from sheep brain was purified to homogeneity using affinity chromatography on p. aminobenzylphosphonic acid-agarose to obtain the enzyme with specific activity, 25 U/mg of protein and yield of about 6%. The low molecular weight was estimated to be 16,000 by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
