The kinetics of oxidation of L-methionine by poly(pyridyl) iron (III) complexes in aqueous media have been investigated. The reactions are first order each in the oxidant, reductant and hydrogen ion. The immediate products are the respective poly(pyridyl) iron (II) complexes and methionine sulphoxide. Each reaction is discussed in terms of the outer-sphere mechanism.
